You're Probably Doing This Wrong
Stop tweaking your targeting. Your ad creative is the targeting.

If your Meta ads keep burning budget without steady sales, your audience settings are probably not the problem. AI ad generators can pump out endless versions of an ad, but volume alone doesn't find buyers. The biggest mistake is making one polished "perfect" ad and ignoring how Meta now decides who sees it.
The big shift
Meta's newer delivery system (often called Andromeda) leans much less on your manual interest stacks, lookalikes and demographic dropdowns. Instead, it reads the ad itself: the colors, the text, the format and how people react to it.
If you only run one narrow style, the system gets a tiny set of signals to work with. It shows that ad to people who like that look, and it misses everyone who scrolls past that style.
So the creative becomes the targeting. Different-looking ads act like different keys, and each one unlocks a different kind of buyer.
An example: one doctor, three ads
Here's an illustrative example. A pediatrician tests three very different ads:
- A funny meme
- A talking-head video
- A symptom checklist
Each ad ends up in front of a different group:
- The meme finds exhausted parents
- The video finds deep researchers
- The checklist finds anxious parents
Nobody touched the audience settings. The way people reacted to each style told the system who it was for.

Three mistakes that kill results
1. Testing tiny text swaps instead of real angles
Changing only the headline isn't creative testing. Try truly different directions:
- Pain point: name the problem your buyer has
- Product demo: show it working
- Offer/price: lead with the deal
- Testimonial/UGC: real customers in their own words (only use real ones)
- Behind the scenes/founder: show who's behind it
2. Losing the scroll in the first 2 seconds
Static logos and slow openings get skipped.
- Open with motion and faces.
- Burn in subtitles, because most people watch on mute.
- Put your core message in the first ~125 characters of your text.
3. Forcing one aspect ratio everywhere
- Feed: 4:5 (1080 × 1350) takes up more of the screen.
- Stories/Reels: native 9:16 (1080 × 1920).
- Safe zones: keep key text, logos and buttons away from the edges, where app icons and captions cover them.
The takeaway
Don't treat creative as an afterthought to targeting. Give Meta 3–5 mobile-first ads that look and feel truly different. Then let people's reactions find the right buyers for you, just like the meme, the video and the checklist each found their own parents.
